"I wanted to have artwork available that was unique, whimsical, artistic and affordable. Everyone should be able to afford artwork. Canvas prints bring the price of great artwork down to an inexpensive option." - Jess

About the Original Print:

My current body of work is made up of hand pulled monotype prints. I use traditional monotype plates and gelatin plates. The gelatin prints are created by laying out ink on a large gelatin plate. I melt and pour my own gelatin plates. Images are composed of inks, foliage and hand cut masks. The beauty of gelatin printing is that you get something different from every print. The foliage pressed into the ink leaves an amazingly detailed pattern on the final image. There is a spontaneity in the medium that can not be reproduced with other processes.

About the Artist:

“My favorite part is starting. There is nothing better than a fresh white canvas, clean sheet of paper, or a brand-new sketchbook.” – J. Chapman

A passion for creating rooted in her childhood, and fostered by her mother (also an oil painter), Jessica Chapman finds her purpose in art. An oil painter foremost, she continually pushes herself to try new mediums and styles, recently delving into printmaking. Chapman draws inspiration from her surroundings. Her work largely explores natural things, from the outdoors to the female form. Monochromatic tones and strong contrasts are prominent in her pieces, along with bold colors.

Jessica has been an artist her whole life but has recently started working towards making this her full time career. She strives to evoke a strong emotion from the viewer, and gives them freedom to explore those emotions by downplaying her own. Chapman has a B.S. in Art Education, and a B.A. in Art (with an Emphasis in Studio Art) from Southwest Minnesota State University.

She sells her artwork through local shops, artist fairs and online through Etsy and her website, www.jessichapman.com

Jessica lives in Rapid City with her husband 2 daughters and crazy dog. She loves to teach art to local youth and she tries to spend as much time as possible in her home studio creating and experimenting. You can also find her substitute teaching art in Hill City, watching Minnesota Twins Baseball and exploring the beauty of the Black Hills.
